I happened somewhat late, and by utter chance - as so many of us - to Runrig, in early 1997. After hunting down the first CD in a local shop with some embarrassement („they‘re not Irish, boy, listen to those drums!“), I soon had all CDs - only to find out that the singer of my now favourite band had left to pursue politics.
Then news came that an unlikely new frontman had been found - from Canada, of all places, but at least a place called „Nova Scotia“. Despite karge misgivings, I wanted to give „the new man“ a chance - and was blown away from the first concert and album, and to see new life - and what energy! - given back to a band I had feared has ceased to exist.
I had the pleasure and honour to meet Bruce after two concerts where I won a „meet and greet“ (and missed him once when he wanted to save his voice). He deeply impressed me with his good nature, pleasant spirit, and heartfelt music, and his warm words and interest in briefly talking to all select fans who got to meet him.
I deeply regret his passing and want to send my best wishes for his wife and children from Germany. Know that Bruce was loved and honoured by many people far outside your community, and his passing is mourned by many fans, who also think of you in ghese difficult times.
