Thank you for sharing Bruce with us

Dear Kim, dear Dylan, dear Jodie,

I only knew Bruce through his music - his own and that of Runrig, my favourite band. If his music is only the slightest reflection of who he was, then he was exceptional. He certainly was to me. His voice, his lyrics, his charisma were easily able to command a room. His music has given more to me than I could ever express with words.

Like so many, I thought that Donnie Munro leaving Runrig would be the end of the band. That was before I heard Bruce sing for the first time. He saved the group and with it a legacy of fighting for a language, a culture and a way of living. He did so in the face of adversity and with an ocean in between. While there is more to Bruce than Runrig, it is how I got introduced to him and what I will forever be grateful for. I have never encountered any form of art that had the same power to move people than what Bruce created with the rest of Runrig.

It's one of many such anecdotes but hearing him perform "Year if the Flood" solo during The Last Dance, I could feel that song as much as I could hear it. It was not merely an outstanding performance, it was something else. Learning that he battled with cancer over the last years gives me a whole new level of respect for what he did for his fans and what he gave to the world. Knowing from experience what it's like to lose someone to cancer, I don't have to imagine what you are living through. Thank you for sharing Bruce with all of us the way you did. I will remember him and treasure the gift he gave to me and so many - until it's time for me to follow him. I hope you can treasure the memories and find solace in the incredible impact that Bruce had and will continue to have.
