Me and my now husband only discovered Bruce and Runrig in 2009 by total chance, searching around for the original version of the stadium hymn of the Cologne football club. All of a sudden, a new world of music opened for us when we heard Bruce perform Loch Lomond with Runrig.
Immediately intrigued, we decided to arrange a planned bicycle trip in Scotland around a concert, and chose Scone Palace in August 2009. Naively, we thought we'd done the most important part by securing our tickets, only to find that basically the whole of Scotland was fully booked whenever Runrig announced an appearance. Thus after a ferry and train journey from Germany we ended up in the most expensive hotel accommodation we'd ever booked, in some luxury resort in the hills about 15 kilometers from Scone Palace, where we got some weird looks arriving on our bicycles.
Well, it was certainly worth it, the concert got us hooked on the band and the whole spirit around them, which Bruce so brilliantly inspired with his voice and radiant personality. Over the years, we thus visited numerous concerts, often in connection with the odd train or cycling trip, winter or summer, in Scotland and Germany, with Edinburgh castle in July 2016 (two days after our no-frills small wedding in Inverness) and the Party on the Moor weekend perhaps standing out, though every single event and venue (Barrowlands ...) has had its special moments and atmosphere.
We are deeply grateful to the family that you made it possible for everyone to follow the funeral service and join the celebration of Bruce's life - what a wonderful gesture in this time that must be so incredibly hard. May there be time for you to grieve and may you soon find consolation in all the wonderful memories of your life with your beloved husband and father.
Rest in peace, Bruce, thank you for your music.
