we have followed Runrig since the "Recovery" album - my late sister (whom we lost to cancer 12 years ago on april 18 ) used to send packages down to me. my younger son , Harry's , first Runrig gig was at Sheffield Octogan , the "Everything You See " tour. he was 8 - the look on his face at being so close to the band at the front barrier cannot be described. Bruce was outstanding - we weren't sure how the gig would be after he became front man but the effort he made to win over the crowd cannot be faulted. my daughter Aisling Skye attended her first Runrig gig aged 4 at Scone Palace . our friend Pamela was working at the Palace that day, her role being attending to the band (we were so envious ) - we had booked her parents holiday home, unaware of her love of Runrig , a place we continued to stay every year for 14 years.
fast forward through many more years and gigs to Stirling. the rain on our journey up matching our sombre mood at the inevitable sadness of the next day . we were fortunate to get a front barrier spot, in front of Rory and the confetti cannon. all was ok - ish , until " Every River" and Bruce sang "there's no way without you " - cue the floods of tears (captured for all to see on the dvd , myself hugging my daughter) . to this day , i still cannot watch that dvd or listen to that song .. Aisling had a better interaction with Bruce that day - watching him at the side of the stage , playing Guess Which Member of Runrig I Can See to entertain us between acts. Bruce came over to her mid-song and motioned to her to join in as she was the only person not raising her hands in the air with everyone else.. she never stopped talking about it all the way back to Pamela's cottage in Rait.
Bruce has kept the spirit of the band alive from day 1 , his own style and interpretation of the music adding to the band. we feel blessed to have had so many front barrier spots to get nearer the band and appreciate the hard work involved in every show . we would like to thank you all for lending him to us and to show our appreciation for his talent. he will be deeply missed , may he rest in peace , leaving an outstanding legacy ...
this is my favourite picture from Stirling - i love the way he is so relaxed, letting the crowd sing for him !
