In 2008, I travelled to Hamburg from Scotland for this concert and spent much time backstage with the band prior to the gig. We were there, backstage, when the band arrived, Malcolm had lost his accordion somewhere after the last gig and was distraught. Bruce was so quiet, like he was psyching himself up for the concert. I am guessing that was maybe how he was before all his performances. We all ate together and everyone else seemed so relaxed by this stage.
The concert, which I was privileged to watch from backstage, was first rate. The crowd was going wild. What a performance by the boys!!
Back at the hotel later after the gig, we laughed, chatted and generally had a great time. I remember how different Bruce was compared to before the gig. Now he had relaxed and was the life and soul of the "party". This was such a special experience and one I will remember and treasure for the rest of my life. My heart is broken and will never mend.
My sincere condolences to Bruce's family and friends. He was, truly, one in a million.
RIP, Bruce Guthro.
