Runrig and Bruce, a unique combination - that's how we got to know them

After the many touching stories, I would also like to briefly describe how we discovered Runrig. On 09.06.2001 my wife and I watched the TV show "Money or Love". Mostly relatively unknown, but interesting bands performed there. So also this time. When Bruce sang the first verse of "Book of Golden Stories", we both looked at each other in disbelief. What an incredibly good voice and great music that was. We both had goose bumps and were blown away.

The very next Monday we went to a CD store and bought 2 CDs of Runrig. The music of Runrig and the unmistakable, soulful and at the same time powerful voice of Bruce did not let us go. In a very short time we bought everything that was available from Runrig. No matter which album we listened to, we liked every song. We had never experienced that to such an extent with any band before. From then on Runrig was our undisputed favorite band, and of course we wanted to see them live.
Before that happened, I was able to enjoy Runrig live on TV at "Rockpalast". It was a brilliant concert. I recorded this concert on VHS video tape and the desire to see a live concert was further fueled. It wasn't long before we were able to enjoy Runrig live for the first time. In 2002 Runrig gave a concert in the "Tanzbrunnen" in Cologne. What can I say, live I liked Runrig even better. The songs were brilliantly performed. Many more concerts should follow.

Also in my circle of friends I "infected" one or the other with Runrig.

Unforgettable for us, however, was a concert that Bruce gave as part of his "X-mas Tour" in November 2014 in the "Batschkapp Frankfurt". The "Batschkapp" is a very small venue and it was not even sold out. Maybe 250 visitors were there. Bruce performed with a total of 8 musicians. The atmosphere at the concert was indescribably warm and emotional. We actually had goose bumps during the whole concert and were so attuned to the contemplative Christmas days as never before. His CD "Bound for Bethlehem" ran up and down over the Christmas days.

The last concert was in the Lanxess Arena in Cologne during the farewell tour. Once again it was a great concert. Only this time the emotions came up, because we knew that it will be the last time to see this unique band live. As with many others in the huge hall, some tears flowed on this unforgettable but somehow sad evening.

When we saw the video of Bruce and his children in July, we were horrified. Bruce really didn't look well and Jodi tried to hide her emotions behind her sunglasses. It all sounded like a goodbye, which it eventually was. What was incomprehensible to us was how quickly the goodbye came after all.
I still can't believe it and it's hard for me to watch videos of Runrig concerts at the moment. Surely it will be possible again someday without bursting into tears.

Bruce, you were a unique musician who provided countless moving moments. It is comforting for us, and certainly for your family, that your musical legacy will remain forever.
Rest in peace
