Bruce Cam

Firstly, my thoughts go out to Bruce’s family and closest friends. Bruce and his music had such a positive impact on so many of our lives, but our sorrow cannot match yours. I was lucky enough to attend over 20 shows with Bruce as part of Runrig, and four of his solo shows in Europe. The first time I heard him sing, I was mesmerised and he firmly cemented his place in my heart with his amazing voice and beautiful songwriting. I wish to share my favourite memory, which is from a concert in Ipswich in 2016. I took my daughter to her first Runrig gig that night. She was trying to take photos at various points in the show, but the staff were being very officious and kept telling people to put their phones away. Bruce could see this, and in that mischievous way of his, kept making faces behind their backs. During the closing Loch Lomond, he signalled for my daughter to approach the stage. Again, the officials tried to intervene, until they realised she was there at Bruce’s request. He took her phone on stage and filmed a segment from the stage, zooming in on Rory, Malcolm and Iain. As a piece of videography, it’s terrible, but it is very funny, and an incredible memory. Bruce was not just an amazing performer, but a thoroughly decent human being with a wicked sense of humour.

The second photo is one I took  from one of the last shows I saw with Bruce in 2019. He will live on in his wonderful musical legacy, and in the talent of his children. Thank you to the Guthro family for lending Bruce to is over the years. He will sorely missed, but we are thankful for the time we shared.
