It's been difficult to find the right words to describe the massive void that you have left behind. Your music changed my life 17 years ago - because of it, I've made life-long friends and we have shared many amazing adventures centered around our passion for live music; it became a wonderful way of life.
What started with a Runrig concert in my hometown in 2006 turned into close to 300 concerts with you in Denmark, Nova Scotia, PEI, Scotland, England and Germany. I loved the magnitude of the Runrig gigs but even closer to my heart were all your solo shows with your Danish/Irish band or just your guitar at Songwriters Circles, Stanfest and the Tønder Festival - I've been a member of many, many memorial shit-kicking choirs over the years!
From the first note I heard you sing, I've been immensely moved by your amazing voice that never failed to captivate hearts, your heartfelt and poignant songwriting, your charismatic stage presence and last but not least your superb storytelling and great sense of humour. One memory that comes to mind is one year at the Tønder Festival where we gave you a five-liter bottle of whisky for your birthday and you loved it so much that you brought it on stage for every performance and continuously toasted with us and your fellow musicians in an attempt to empty it before flying back home!
Home equals your loving family - the ones who suffer the most in these profoundly difficult times and whose loss is utterly incomprehensible. To Kim, Dylan and Jodi - my deepest condolences; the world is mourning with you.
The sense of emptiness is ubiquitous and these times are a mourning of a Beautiful Life lost much too soon - you were not supposed to be Sailing Home already. I'm truly grateful to you for all the music that will keep on living and giving, for the many times we met, for being one of my musical heroes and for being my musical friend. Rest in peace - and keep on rocking!
Worlds will rise and fall and come and go but Love Lives On.
